How 'failure' became renewal

It started with an instinct. The flutterings of purpose calling me. A wise voice that said...go on, give it a go.

Have you heard that voice? What is it calling you to do? Are you listening to it?

My personal mission is to make coaching accessible to all.

Not for the sake of it, but because with coaching comes greater awareness, aligned decision-making, and empowered action.

Couldn't everyone benefit from that - not just senior execs?

We need everyone's potential to shine in the world.

In 2018, I started Coaching Communities to connect brilliant people in brave spaces—peer coaching circles, training courses and an online community—where they can learn and grow together.

Coaching Communities leverage the fact that our richest and cheapest resource is each other.

It was going well: we were working with community developers, GP practices, a school, and a startup, achieving promising impact.

But then the pandemic hit.

Then, I had a baby.

I ran out of energy and time to keep up the belief needed to power my business alone.

Recently, I felt a spark of purpose again, I wondered if others also felt alone in their purpose.

I realised I didn't need to do it alone - I could take my own medicine.

So back in June I posted on LinkedIn, inviting others to join me in a peer coaching circle https://lnkd.in/eJK8Xjge

Starting again was scary - I didn’t know where it would lead - but inspired by one of my favourite poems by David Whyte "Start Close In", I trusted in my instincts enough to take the first step.

Now, four sessions in, we’re a close-knit group of relative strangers who deeply care about each other’s journeys and provide wisdom and support.

Last week, it was my turn to be coached, and it was profound.

I’ve seen this sort of transformative shift happen in others many times, and now I’ve felt it myself.

Here’s what shifted for me:

🌱Failure Became Renewal: My peers (not all professional coaches) helped me realise that the “hiatus” wasn’t failure but a part of a business development process—this is my renewal.

🌱Two Selves Knit Together: The “me” before the pandemic and motherhood is now rejoined with the businesswoman and mother I am today.

🌱Clarity and Focus: The fog of indecision cleared in the presence of other minds and wise questions, revealing what truly matters.

🌱A Real Action Plan: I walked away with a clear, self-driven timeline and tasks. Knowing I’ll check back in with this supportive group adds accountability.

🌱Taking My Own Advice: I was reminded and reinforced in my founding belief that we don’t need to do this alone— we have a network to lean on and learn from.

Which leads me to...

💌An Invitation:

Would you like to experience peer coaching for yourself? Join me for a free peer coaching taster on Friday, November 22, 9:30-10:30 GMT. This brave space is open to all, no coaching experience needed. Sign up here and for more details https://lnkd.in/evZaZ9r5. If there’s a good response, I may offer it monthly. Looking forward to seeing some of you there!
